The shoes are painted with Angelus Leather paints, made to be used on flexible surfaces like shoes and clothes, without cracking. A coating of Angelus finisher is applied on top to protect the artwork, after which the shoes are treated with a water-and-stain repellant. The method has been tested for daily use, rainy days included.
How to care for your shoes: Use them normally! The idea is to lengthen the life of the shoes, not for them to be a fragile showpiece. There's only a few do's and don'ts:
Do NOT: Scrub clean. Instead, if you have stains that need to be removed, wipe gently with a damp cloth. Actively scrubbing with a rough cleaning item can cause more stress to the artwork than regular daily wear and the paint method is not tested for this.
Do: If you wish, apply a new coat of water-and-stain repellent every now and then. Frequency depends on usage, once or twice a year should do it for most.

Shoes have inserts, placed there by previous owner. You can request to have these removed, or keep them as is if you were planning on getting inserts anyway. The inserts are very soft and would likely provide great pressure relief.
